ABOUT US

Growing up in Nebraska, I've always been drawn to the simple beauty of our native landscapes. Have you ever paused and imagined what our neighborhoods might have looked like before development? Vast stretches of wildflowers and resilient grasses painted a scene quite unlike the manicured lawns we're used to today.

In 2007, during my tenure as a graduate student at the University of Nebraska, I dived deep into a burgeoning landscaping movement with my master's thesis: "Updating Omaha’s Weed Ordinance to Support Native Landscaping." At its core, it explored the myriad benefits of native landscaping - an approach that embraces plant species naturally attuned to our local climate and soil. Adopting this method doesn’t just bring aesthetic appeal; it significantly reduces herbicide usage, noise pollution from lawn equipment, and water waste, while boosting local wildlife habitats and instilling a unique ‘sense of place.’

Fast forward to 2013, when I moved into the Country Club neighborhood. The dream became a reality in 2020 as I cultivated my first plot of wildflowers and native grasses. Their allure was so intoxicating that soon after, my entire front yard transformed into a mesmerizing prairie meadow.

Enter Prairie in Progress, a heartfelt endeavor to reconnect Nebraska with its natural roots. This isn't just a business; it's a family passion. Ethan, my eldest son and a budding Landscape Architecture student at the University of Nebraska, crafts our prairie landscape designs. Leo and Macy, my spirited younger duo, are the hands-on team behind turf extraction, seed planting, and maintenance. And Jackie, my incredibly versatile wife, is the anchor holding our operations together.
